Idols Idle is a collection of
ceramic sculptures drawn from different regional mythologies and
weather-related deities across Southeast and East Asia. Expanding on the
techno-animist premise within Weather Casting, the sculptures further
imagine how local mythologies take physical forms in a future where humans
themselves can wield and command weather.
Made with ceramics - a choice of material that
grounds the atmospheric to the terrestrial. The sculptures are shaped into
idols, talismans, and amulets that blend the archaic with the speculative
geoengineered climate future. Housed within see-through computer cases adorned
with RGB lighting, what would otherwise be traditional idols are instead installed
within technologically-updated settings for their reintegration into future
societies. Together, Idols Idle creates an expansive cyclical
relationship with Weather Casting.
